Hoarder House
June 27, 2017
I recently bought a hoarder house. I have bought some rough properties in the past, but I think this one takes the cake. What can I say, there is a reason a certain company’s logo says that they buy ugly houses, right? The reason is that they make a bunch of money.
Well…this one was truly a Hoarder House. Have you seen the program called Hoarders? WOW I wish you could smell the house. There was truly a pungent mix of cat pee, cat feces, dead cat and a subtle scent of mental issues. I can not believe that people live like that, but they do.

Something bad has to happen to them that causes them to break with reality and start the hoarder mentality. It is truly a mental disorder.
So on with the details. Ms. X (not her real name) was a hoarder. She was living in a home without air conditioning for a few years now, overgrown bushes and trees, and lots of cats. Thats already a bad situation, right? Well she was sick in the hospital and passed away (not in the house). Ms. X’s daughter did not do anything with the house for about a year and was going to court because there was a demolition order on the house. The reason being that Ms. X had not done any repairs to the house in years. Facia boards were missing where animals could get into the house, trees had not been taken care of in years, and there was overall neglect.
This is where Rick steps in. I speak with the daughter, make her an offer and buy the house. I have to show Universal City (a suburb of San Antonio) within 2 months that I am going to buy the property and clean it up. I closed on the property within a month. I began working on the exterior of the house. I fixed rotten siding, facia boards, open soffit, fence falling, yard overgrown with trees, bushes, cactus, sago palms and all kinds of weeds. A porch enclosure was rotten so I took it down completely. I put a new roof and painted the exterior of the house. We went to court yesterday and they gave me 90 days to complete the inside. WHEW!
Now the real work begins to get all the work done on the inside. Wish me luck. This one will be one of my bigger challenges. I will report back to you in the future.
Have you ever purchased a hoarder house?? It is so much fun. I have 3 before pics, then mid-way and then when the roof was almost finished and so was the trim.
Isn’t that something?!?! You can see the house!!
